After a rebuilding year in the first season for Head Coach Jamon Frostenson, the Camas County Mushers appear to be a real threat to contend in the 1AD2 North Side Conference this time around.

The squad returns arguably its top two players in Isaac Simon and Erick Peterson.

Simon was an All-Conference Honorable Mention last season while Peterson received plenty of playing time during his freshman year.

Peterson is also the quarterback of the football team.

Both players are forwards who bring some much needed height to the gym in Fairfield. Simon is 6’2” while Peterson is 5’11” and still growing.

Plenty of players also return to complement the duo.

“This core group of returning seniors have been playing together and starting since freshman year. They have more skill, strength and determination than ever before,” said Frostenson.

“This group will pick up where we left off last year, we will dominate the boards this year and have more offensive skills to threaten with this season,” he added.

The coach is excited to see what the final step will be for his senior class.

“This is an older, stronger and more experienced group that will be led by last year’s leading scorer and All-Conference Honorable Mention, Issac Simon,” said Frostenson.

He focused on the impressive first season of Peterson, a player he expects even more out of in the new campaign.

“Also look for dominating play by Erick Peterson, last year’s second highest scorer and rebounder who is going to be a huge part of our success this year on both ends of the court,” he added.

Within the North Side Conference Carey and Dietrich should again be among the top two or three teams, meaning if the Mushers want to compete and make a state run they will need to go through those teams first.

Last season the matchups between the sides were not close, meaning Camas County needs to have made some offseason strides to changes things this year.

Frostenson is hoping that this team will be able to win the rebounding battle on a consistent basis.

“Our fans will see a continuation of the tough man-to-man team defense that started to emerge last season along with our continued dominance of the offensive and defensive boards,” stated the coach.

“Offensively we’ll have more skills than we had last season and will look forward to putting more points up this coming season,” he added.
