Written By: Ryan Lee

The Centennial Patriots will return 10 players from last year’s team that went 10-13. With all of the returners coming back, the Patriots did go through a major coaching change during the offseason. Coach Tom Aipperspach retired after 28 years of coaching, and will be replaced by his son, Josh Aipperspach.

Key returners for the Patriots include senior guard, 5A SIC honorable mention, Taylor Wallick, 5A SIC honorable mention Kendall Williams, and eight other junior and seniors. A key newcomer for Centennial comes in the way of a transfer point guard from Capital, in 5A SIC second team all-conference member, Talon Pickney. Coach Josh Aipperspach will have many options and weapons this season, the challenge will be to get the right mix of players to play and gel together.

Offense: Offensively, the Patriots will be loaded with experience and guys that can score the ball. Head Coach Aipperspach had this to say about his team’s offensive ability. We have many guys that can contribute to this team on offense. Our transition game will be much improved with our experience, and with Talon at the point position. We will be a tough team to play because we can play with so many weapons.

Defense: Like his dad, Aipperspach and his team will have the ability to run multiple defenses. The Patriot defense will feature a lot of different traps and full court pressure. Their athleticism and experience should help them to have better on ball pressure and play better help defense as a group.

Wrap-Up: Centennial will have their size back from a year ago and they should be able to matchup with anybody in the state this season. Their size should help them to get easy buckets, and control the tempo of the game on the glass. With all of the returners the Patriots roughly have the same makeup as Timberline had a season ago. They are laden with juniors and seniors with great ability and potential. If they can come together with their new head coach they will be a very dangerous team to play on a nightly basis, and will be a threat to steal one of the four state berths in the conference.
