It’s a case of some old, some new for Coeur d’Alene in 2015-16, as the team hopes to build on a 16-9 season and make a return to the state tournament.

The Vikings return two players with varsity experience, juniors Brody Lundblad and Joey Nacaratto. But they combine for an inside-outside dynamic that all teams crave. That helps absorb the loss of another inside-outside combo in the graduated Tony Nacaratto and Colby Daniels, both all-conference selections.

Coeur d’Alene boasts team speed and athleticism among its strengths. The Vikings should be able to shoot well from the perimeter this season, which would be an improvement on their struggles from a season ago. Overall field goal percentage, and improved shooting from the perimeter, are keys to improvement this season, as well as mitigating their turnover count.

Defensively, that speed and athleticism translates to the ability to harass opponents all over the court. The Vikings’on-ball defense is pretty solid, but help-side defense and overall interior defense will need to be shored up to complete their defensive prowess.

Coach Kurt Lundblad says his bunch is focused on playing hard, smart and together this season. Their athleticism and team chemistry will go a long way toward building a solid platform for the Vikings’success this season. Lake City and reigning 5A champion Post Falls will be great rivalry games to watch, but Lundblad hopes if his bunch can play together and string together a consistent 32 minutes night in, night out, Coeur d’Alene will be right there at the business end of the season.
