Team Preview

Idaho City had an impressive run to the state tournament last season, posting a 17-6 record on the strength of four core players. Two of those players return for the Wildcats, including the conference player of the year, forward Margaret Anderson. Guard Joy Billings is also back to help anchor a retooling job that could see Idaho City back at state if everything goes according to plan.

The club boasts speed on offense, but with that comes the temptation to run things a little too quickly. Keeping things simple but at the same time executing patience with the basketball will be a huge key in any success Idaho City hopes to have on the offensive end of the floor.

Defensively, the Wildcats have tenacity and grit, which is where they’ve hung their hat. Rebounding technique could stand to improve and would make them that much more formidable in their conference schedule as they look to make a return to the state tournament in 2015-16.

Veteran coach Monica Cockerille makes sure her team takes pride in playing hard, playing smart, playing together and having fun. An experienced group under her tutelage should be able to accomplish those goals without much problem. That also offers a solid platform from which the Wildcats can grow their program and shoot for even higher aspirations this time out.

In a league that features state tournament mainstay Liberty Charter and others hoping to break through, it will be the little things that sets one team apart from the others, and Idaho City hopes its experience will give it a leg up in the detail department.
