Team Preview

A 10-10 season last time out gives Moscow’s girls basketball team a solid platform to build on for 2015-16. The Bears return six seniors from that squad, including all-conference guard Jada Simpson, as they look to finish atop the three-deep Inland Empire League.

Continuity from the player roster and coaching staff alike, along with some critical intangibles like buy-in, positive vibes and general mutual support, could give Moscow a leg up in its quest to win the conference before the season even starts. Getting onto the court, the Bears have assets all over the floor, with nine total returners having logged varsity minutes at various points last season.

Moscow has no shortage of talent and experience on the offensive end of the floor, boasting ability in transition, interior and perimeter play. But the Bears will need to maintain good shot selection and accuracy, as well as clean up on the offensive glass, in order to pile up the points in 2015-16.

Defensively, the Bears offer strength and athleticism across the board, as well as general team quickness and anticipation. That team defense will look to smother opponents before they can get into their half-court sets, but dribble penetration and general rebounding are a couple of areas Moscow is looking to work on to shore up the overall team defensive prowess.

In a small league, the conference games are magnified, and Moscow hopes to have good shooting percentage and team defense in order to get itself back to the state tournament.
