It’s a new era for Bonneville girls basketball as one of their own returns to the Hive.

Amy Wood, a Bonneville graduate, takes over the reigns of the Lady Bees program after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach under Traci Peterson at Madison.

Wood is already thrilled about the program she has inherited.
“I have a group of extremely coachable girls who are willing to work hard and stay focused on our goals,” she said.

The Bees have good returning talent to work with, including 5A District 5-6 and High Country Conference first teamer Hayli Keck, along with Sami Trane, an honorable mention nominee. They are joined by incoming junior post Cadee Berrett, whom Wood expects to be a force down low this year.

“I’m really excited about our inside-out game,” she said. “We have some strong, physical post players and guards who know how to score.”

Defensively, Wood hopes the Bees come out strong on ‘D’ each night.

“I feel like we are great at playing team defense,” she said. “We want to be hardworking and consistent each night.”

While the new gig for Wood isn’t exactly a “rebuild”, she hopes that her squad can realize their potential and, in the process, qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2010.

It won’t be easy though. The 5A District 5-6 Conference is competitive, with defending district champion and archrival Hillcrest looking to progress even further this season. Highland and Madison have traditionally been tough and the Skyline and Idaho Falls programs are in the midst of a turnaround as well. That all being said, Wood feels her new job is the right place for her to be.

“I’m really excited to come back home to my alma mater and help the girls be successful. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls and I’m looking forward to the adventures this season will bring.”
