Ridgevue High School is the new kid on the block. The school is set to open its doors for the first time this fall and the football team is in full swing preparing themselves for its first season.

Former Boise State great Tom DeWitz was hired on this offseason to coach the Warhawks as they will compete in the 4A classification in the Southern Idaho Conference.

DeWitz played guard for the Broncos in the mid-1980s and was awarded second-team All-American following the 1987 season.

DeWitz coached in Washington as an assistant for 25 seasons before returning home to the Treasure Valley.

With his return, he brings a spread them out, no huddle offensive style that will force the defense to defend the entire field.

A new school means there are no returning players from previous seasons, forcing the Warhawks to create an entire roster from scratch. Most of DeWitz’s players played for Vallivue High School in Caldwell last season which means that when Ridgevue takes on Vallivue on September 30, it will be more than just a football game. Former teammates, classmates and friends will face each other for the first time, making it a can’t miss matchup.

Ridgevue will have immediate senior leadership from players who have already played together at Vallivue.

The Warhawks are led by senior quarterback and utility man Will Bourne, whose duel-threat abilities provide the offense with tremendous upside. In addition, Ridgevue is also equipped with other offensive playmakers such as running back Randy Rodriguez, who will just add to the Warhawks threatening rushing attack, and wide receiver Kade Lindner who will give Bourne a deep threat option that will keep opposing secondaries honest.

Linebackers Eric Bataluna, Cullen Lewis, Holten Hughes and lineman Toby Summers will make the Warhawks poised to have a dominant front seven.

Excitement has filled the air in Nampa, and for DeWitz and his players, fall can’t come soon enough.
