After spending a few years in Wyoming as the head coach for Hot Springs High School football, Mackay native Robert Anderson steps onto the sidelines in Filer looking to help turn around the fortunes of a program that has struggled as of late.

The Wildcats went 2-7 in 2015, allowing over 33 points in all but two games, both wins, and struggling to generate offense throughout the season.

With plenty of work to do in order to get things back on the right track, Anderson says the team is rallying together to make it happen.

"I am excited about the excitement of the athletes so far this year. They are stepping up to the new things being put in and working hard together."

For the improvement to be seen in the win-loss column, the defense will be the big key.

"I feel we have more experience on the defensive side than the offensive side," said Anderson. "With our speed we hope to rally to the ball and make plays together as a team."

Two-way players Ben Lammers (both lines), Austyn Sherman (WR/DB) and Josh Hughes (RB/LB) will be relied upon to lead the charge for the Wildcats.

After failing to score more than 12 points on five occasions last year, including two shutouts, Filer will change the mindset on the offensive side of things.

"I know they were more of a passing team [last season] and we hope to be more run-first. I feel we have a lot of overall speed on offense. [We] hope to try and use the speed to run the ball," said Anderson.

For a team with a lot of new ideas and concepts in front of it, the key to success, especially early in the season, will be how fast the Wildcats can put the schemes together and execute them.

The first opportunity to do just that will come on August 26 when Filer hosts the always tough North Fremont Huskies.
