It seems safe to say that Mountain Home has to be excited to be moving into the Great Basin Conference this season after winning two games against 4A SIC opponents dating back to 2011.

The Tigers move over to district four to join the west pod of the Great Basin, which for football will feature Twin Falls, Canyon Ridge, Jerome and Wood River.

Fourth year head coach Jim Clark has a tough task to try to turn things around in Mountain Home, as the program has lost 38 of its last 40 games.

Multiple talented pieces did earn Honorable Mention All-SIC honors last season, including running back Seth West, wide receiver Nehemiah Parker, defensive lineman Zack Goodell and linebacker Austin Tetrault.

West should receive even more of the workload out of the backfield this season with Sergio Figueroa departing to graduation. The same can be said with Parker at receiver with Walker Harris no longer a weapon on the field for the Tigers.

Mountain Home showed flashes of potential on the offensive side of the ball in 2017, putting up 41 at Skyview, 25 against Ridgevue and 24 in the season finale against Middleton. The Tigers were inconsistent however, being held to six points or less in five of their other six games.

"We have a lot of weapons if everyone stays healthy and eligible," added Clark.

Defense was a major struggle. The defensive unit yielded 445 points to opponents on the year, an average of almost 50 points against per game. That will have to improve in a big way if the team wants to take a step in the right direction this season.

Week one should present Mountain Home with a good measuring stick to see how far the team has come in the offseason, getting conference play underway right out of the chutes in Hailey against Wood River. The Tigers then head to Holt Arena to take on Pocatello in a Thursday night week two battle that will be broadcast live and free on IdahoSports.com.
