Behind an explosive offense and a hard-hitting defense, Lighthouse Christian caused the opposition plenty of headaches in 2018, with Carey the only opponent to knock off the Lions.

On the offensive side of the ball most of the key pieces return, including quarterback Collin Holloway, wide receivers Tyler Munsee, Casper Block and Clay Silva and running backs Brandon Houser and Chance Gaskill.

The scary part? That’s just the skill position talent. Logan Stevens and Steven Tanguy are also back to man the front of the offensive line after earning accolades for their performances last season.

With all of the talent in place, the key to success is pretty simple.

“Stay healthy and keep it rolling! We had a great offensive year last year and hope to keep building on that success,” said head coach Cory Holloway.

Holloway says improving the red zone scoring percentage and special teams play have been two areas of emphasis this offseason.

Two staples of the defense mark the only exiting starters from last year, with leading tackler in program history Cooper Dastrup and All-State defensive end Brandon Butler both graduating.

Defensive lineman Karsten Brandsma will be relied upon even more heavily as he enters his senior season as a result, as he looks to get pressure on the quarterback and protect the edge of the line.

Forcing the opponent into mistakes is another focus area.

“We need to win the turnover war and utilize our speed and athleticism to make the opponent uncomfortable,” added Holloway.

Speed has always been one of the strengths for Lighthouse Christian, and that should continue to be the case once again this season.

Carey remains the primary challenger within the conference for the Lions, with the two scheduled to face off on September 13 in Twin Falls.

Prior to the game against the defending champions in week three, Lighthouse Christian will travel to Camas County and Hansen in weeks one and two.
